Reading The Bible With A Purpose
This is a growing resource on reading the Bible with intention.
What does that mean?
It means approaching Scripture not just to learn, but to let it shape us. When we read and then apply what we’ve learned with love, our purpose in reading becomes increasingly rooted in the Bible itself. It’s essential to return, or come anew, to this practice:
Read the Bible regularly, not out of obligation, but because our minds, hearts, and souls need the nourishment that Scripture offers.
We cannot (and shouldn’t) force ourselves, or others, to read the Bible; instead, we cultivate a genuine desire for spiritual food.
Reading with intention means asking: What does this passage teach me about God? What is it calling me to believe or do?
One powerful method is to write out the text by hand. This slows us down, helps us absorb details we might otherwise miss, and anchors the message in our memory Writing also gives us space to notice what stands out, record questions, and reflect on how the passage applies to our lives.
